The Renmark caravan park had an amazing water park that the kids loved. Shame we were only there for one day! They made the most of it though!!
09.04.17 - Another big drive from Renmark to the Flinders Ranges and our camping ground at Wilpena Pound.
Once we got all set up we went for a walk to check the place out. One of the best things about Wilpena Pound was the fact that we could have a camp fire... something we miss when staying in the usual caravan park!!
10.04.17 - The next day we headed out on our first walk/hike, to the Wangarra Lookouts. This took in the Hill's Homestead which gave us an insight into the story of the daughter of the first pioneer family to live in Wilpena Pound. It was pretty good walk which wasn't too hard on the old or young in the group! Amazing scenery was on offer that's for sure!
11.04.17 - We took an Aboriginal Cultural Tour with an experienced Yura Guide... Jimmy! He lead us, and others, on an entertaining and informative stroll from our campsite to Old Wilpena Pound Station which is one of SA's oldest and best preserved pastoral settlements.
We sat down with Jimmy and talked about his heritage, the rules and laws that he had to abide by... it was fascinating!
I was particularly impressed with this one and thought it would be great in my culture!!!
Cooper asked him a (cringe worthy) question... he asked if he celebrated Australia Day or if he viewed it as Invasion Day. Jimmy answered the question so well and didn't seem to hold any grudges toward us 'white folk'.
That evening we headed to Stokes Hill lookout to watch the sunset over the Flinders Ranges... WOW!! The photos really don't do it justice!!

12.04.17 - We headed off bright and early to do some Gorge drives & have lunch at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna - where we were told to try the 'Road Kill Grill'. So, we headed out of Wilpena and made our way to Brachina Gorge and Parachilna Gorge. It was a little bumpy but a lot of fun!!
13.04.17 - We headed to Arkaroo rock and did the hike to the aboriginal paintings there. The art work there told the story of the creation of Wilpena Pound. It's a story fom the Adnyamathana Dreamtime and believed to be about 5,000 years old!
The ceiling of the cave is named after the mythological serpents, called Akurra (or Arkaroo). It is believed that two Akurras entered into a long and vicious battle with a group of hunters. The hunters killed both the snakes and it is their petrified bodies that now form the outer walls of Wilpena Pound... fascinating stuff!!
14.04.17 - Good Friday and our farewells to the Flinders Ranges. It was time to jump in the car and head to Mildura to meet up with our other friends the Williams' x 2!!
15.04.17 - So how good was it that we arrive in Mildura on the weekend of the Mildura 100. This is Mildura's equivalent to the Southern 80. The boys and the kids were very excited about watching loud, fast speed boats roaring up and down the river!! And us Mums were happy with sipping every flavoured Baileys you could imagine out of our newly acquired chocolate Easter Eggs!!
16.04.17 - We headed to the Perry Sandhills in Wentworth today. We packed the cars with boogie boards and bits of cardboard so that we could fly down the sandhills at great speeds. Hmmmm... well we tried, but there was more getting bogged than having the wind rush through our hair!!
17.04.17 - Homeward bound. We had an amazing time exploring the Flinders Ranges and relaxing in Mildura. Another fantastic time with fantastic friends.
